Background of Queen Elizabath National Park
Queen Elizabeth National Park, located in western Uganda, is one of the country’s most famous and diverse protected areas. It was established in 1952 and was originally named Kazinga National Park. Two years later, it was renamed in honor of Queen Elizabeth II following her visit to Uganda in 1954. The park spans across the districts of Kasese, Kamwenge, Rubirizi, and Rukungiri, covering over 1,978 square kilometers.
The park is part of a larger conservation area that includes the nearby Kyambura and Kigezi Wildlife Reserves. It boasts a variety of ecosystems, including savannah grasslands, wetlands, crater lakes, tropical forests, and the shores of Lake Edward and Lake George.
